production blog: flop or not?

Image
welcome to the last and final production blog! today, i had my parents and sister watch our film in order to see if anything needed to be fixed. luckily, my parents have never been one to lie to me, so if there is an issue, they will tell me. firstly, my dad watched, and told me the only issue he could find was that in one scene, the music was too loud. that was an easy fix after i allerted jordyn about it. next, my mother. she was very suprised and thought it was very good, except that one of the scenes was extended for too long. that was a tricker fix, jordyn had to be carfull not to mess up any of the other transitions. my sister sister said we should find a way to make the sound of the police officer quieter. we needed to find a way to make the police sound muffled from far away, not underwater. it also needed to sound like it was coming from outside the door. jordyn decided that she would turn up the volume of the diegetic sound of the police officer and turn down the music. this

production blog: editing away

Hello! Today is our second to last day of editing and it was jam packed. the first step was for jordyn to edit in all of the titles. to do this we had to choose the perfect fonts, which aja and i helped pick out. after we talked, we decided to have the fonts fade in and out to simulate my charactor's memory loss. we chose to use a white font, which i thought would be an issue. once jordyn edited it in though, it looked great and she made sure it wouldnt get lost in any clip. After we got all of the titles edited in, we started to incorporate all of the new clips gotten from yesterday’s filming session. Jordyn cut them to the correct length, and put them in order into the editing software. now it was time for me to add in the scores, but jordyn struggled with this. it was hard to get the sound to come in smoothly and leave just as so. some even needed to be redone and lengthened to fit the scenes. then we watched the scenes with the added music, but decided some of the music was too

Production: a sprinkle of drama

greetings! today, my group and i needed to film our last 3 scenes. It was quick, and we got finished with all of the scenes. the first scene was the date scene that involved aja and i. The group wanted the atmosphere to be like a date, and went outside to my patio that has a small table and chairs. at first, it was too rainy and cloudy to film, but finally we got to see the sun. Once we had this chance we didnt wsnt to waste it so we immediatly went to film. the scene included a cross cut taking turns in between me and aja. At first, we were going to go back and forth between the 2 of us, but then aja had a great idea! her idea was to do all 3 clips from each person at once. After it was done, we made sure everythuing lined up and that we didnt need to refilm anything. As far as props, it was not much, but we had to be creative. for my glass of "wine" i used my creativity to try and make fake white wine. this included lime juice, water and sprite. while not perfect, it looked

Along with editing, having good sound quality is super important to this project. That is why I wanted the scores in this film to be perfect. To do this, I spent hours a day trying to come up with the best compisitions of music I could think of. I made sure each one matched the scenes emotional value to a "T". Using the recording studio app, Garage Band, I could record music from my guitar, key board, violin and even my sound board. This didn't come without its own set of issues, however. To record sound into the app, you need a USB port adaptater to connect to a 1/4th inch tip sleeve input. I already had both of these things, but i was concerned on how i was going to add in a violin. This is because it dosent have a tip sleeve input which is what brings sound from the instrument to the recording app. This is where I had to get creative. I dropped an airpod into the violin's F-hole (where the sound comes out) and recorded sound from my airpods into Garage Band. With t

Hello! Once I relaxed from 2 very stressfull days of filming, jordyn was finally able to edit! Firstly, we sat together and watched all of the final clips that we decided on using, and temporarily using IMovie to combine them together. From experience, Jordyn has stated that she perfers IMovie to other editing apps like Divinci Resolve 18, IMovie being much more simple. While jordyn worked on the actual editing, Aja and I gave feedback and opinions on different effects and transition ideas. Aja was very helpful in getting the exact moment that the clips needed to be cut at. Jordyn and i made sure we had all of the clips combined before she switched apps to Davinci Resolve 18. After all of this,we still had about 2 minutes and 30 seconds of time to use up. Then, Jordyn downloaded all of the clips, and sent them to my computer to edit on. While it is my laptop, we decided Jordyn would edit on it so that we dont lose it on a school computer. Before even starting to edit, we promptly made

Fancy seeing you here! Now, onto today's events. Today, the group met at my house at 11 am. This was because we took much longer than we though we would the previous day, and we wanted to get done earlier. This day, we did not film the dinner date scene, so we filmed the last scene on the couch. We werent able to film the date scene because I had forgotten to bring my fancy outfit to my dad's house. This was ok, because I was able to secure a better date enviroment at a later date. Back to the couch scene, this was all about timing. Jordyn and I had made a fake news report to forshadow Aja's character's death. I connected my laptop to the TV, and Aja played it in time with her begining to record. We did this fairly quickly and were able to all leave by 3pm. With only one scene left to film, editing will start soon to ensure we dont need to refilm anything. Jordyn did a quick splice together of any transitions that needed to be double checked. All was good and everyone w

Hello there! Welcome back to my blog! My group was able to film more scenes this weekend. On friday, we were able to film the morning and bathroom scenes. I had let jordyn know that I couldnt find the original shirt I had filmed in, so we had to refilm the bathroom scene. We were able to film the morning scene and the office scene for the first time, so that was good. Since I am the only one in these scenes so far, I had to make sure I was getting the transitions correct. This means when the scenes would cut, I had to make sure not to move until Jordyn or Aja said that the clips lined up correctly. A few times, I had moved and this resulted in us having to film the scene over. Eventually, we completed the morning, bathroom, and office scene. The refilming process was annoying, but I was able to do it correctly in just 3 shots because of how many times it needed to be refilmed last time! The transition is flawless and I am very relieved that i get to stop splashing myself with water. No

production blog: the editing session

Hi! As you know, the group filmed the other day, finally. It was long awaited and our camera-person got lots of the shots that she needed. this, of course, means that the editor must begin her job. Our editor, Jordyn, sat down with the clips that were shot during filming to see what could be done. Her editing session was short though, because we were only able to get one scene completed due to the tight schedule we were running on. Because she only had one scene to edit, she decided to use IMovie as her main editing software. Using that platform at this point would optimize the efficiency of the editing, instead of using Davinci Resolve. However, later on when the editing is more complex, jordyn will use it even despite her difficulty with Davinci last year. During filming, the issue of a phone stabalizer running out of battery occured. This unfortunatly became a larger problem when an awkward cut between shots was noticed. As jordyn was splicing the transition together, she noticed th

Welcome back! Yesterday the group was finally able to meet up and film. To do this, Jordyn rode with Aja to meet at my moms house after school. There, we stopped for a homemade chicken sandwich before heading to my dads to begin filming. Once we got there, we began to film the morning scene, until I realized I had forgotten the main prop, my glasses. Because of this, we filmed the bathroom scene instead. Aja was recording, and she had to take many shots of the same scene due to the difficult transition. I was the one acting at the moment, and I had to hold many different positions and hide props in the sink to keep the transitions clean. At one point, I had the prop flask in the sink, while also having my head ducked in the sink to avoid being in the camera's view. Another funny think I had to do was mess up my bathroom! I used toothpaste and squeezed it out on the counter, flicked water on the mirror to make it look dirty, and put old hairties on the counter. This was to give it a

production blog: marketing

Image
Welcome back! Tomorrow the group will film the first part of the short film, but for now, marketing is the main focus. To gain traction for the film, the group has decided to create various social media accounts on platforms like instagram, youtube, facebook and twitter. I am also creating a website to give information regarding the film to anyone interested. All of the social media accounts will provide the basic information about the film, as well as behind the scene clips from the days the group was filming. On the youtube account, my idea was to compile a few of the bloopers and post them. This would be funny and focus attention on the film. As for the instagram account, it was decided that it would focus more on the personal aspects of each character. Things like Q and A's and interviews could be posted, so that the audience gets to know each actor as a person. The twitter account would be used to tweet links of posts on other social media platforms, as well as to interact wi
