production blog: the editing session
Hi! As you know, the group filmed the other day, finally. It was long awaited and our camera-person got lots of the shots that she needed. this, of course, means that the editor must begin her job. Our editor, Jordyn, sat down with the clips that were shot during filming to see what could be done. Her editing session was short though, because we were only able to get one scene completed due to the tight schedule we were running on. Because she only had one scene to edit, she decided to use IMovie as her main editing software. Using that platform at this point would optimize the efficiency of the editing, instead of using Davinci Resolve. However, later on when the editing is more complex, jordyn will use it even despite her difficulty with Davinci last year. During filming, the issue of a phone stabalizer running out of battery occured. This unfortunatly became a larger problem when an awkward cut between shots was noticed. As jordyn was splicing the transition together, she noticed the purpose of the long, continuous shot had back fired. Even the most unnoticeable camera shift during filming was picked up once the shot was reviewed. Before making any changes Jordyn contacted the rest of the group (me and aja).
Aja suggested that Jordyn tried to match other shots to the last shot and see if they fit. This was a good idea, but it did not work. The framing was different in every shot! Instead of trying to realign the other shots, Jordyn settled for editing the lighting and hues of the other scenes to create a more fitting match for the transition. In a text to the group chat, Jordyn texted her modifcation "codes" so that she could use them in the future. Then, Jordyn and i collaborated to map out the scores that will be put in each scene. I made the scored on the day that we filmed so she was able to incorperate them into her editing session and determine how long each score needs to be. She was then able to use the sounde to decide what hue best related to each emotion. Jordyn eventually decided to use a red-ish tint to portray the depressed, repetitive emotions.
