production blog: filming filming and more filming!

Fancy seeing you here! Now, onto today's events. Today, the group met at my house at 11 am. This was because we took much longer than we though we would the previous day, and we wanted to get done earlier. This day, we did not film the dinner date scene, so we filmed the last scene on the couch. We werent able to film the date scene because I had forgotten to bring my fancy outfit to my dad's house. This was ok, because I was able to secure a better date enviroment at a later date. Back to the couch scene, this was all about timing. Jordyn and I had made a fake news report to forshadow Aja's character's death. I connected my laptop to the TV, and Aja played it in time with her begining to record. We did this fairly quickly and were able to all leave by 3pm. With only one scene left to film, editing will start soon to ensure we dont need to refilm anything. Jordyn did a quick splice together of any transitions that needed to be double checked. All was good and everyone w...

Production Blog: re shoots

Hello there! Welcome back to my blog! My group was able to film more scenes this weekend. On friday, we were able to film the morning and bathroom scenes. I had let jordyn know that I couldnt find the original shirt I had filmed in, so we had to refilm the bathroom scene. We were able to film the morning scene and the office scene for the first time, so that was good. Since I am the only one in these scenes so far, I had to make sure I was getting the transitions correct. This means when the scenes would cut, I had to make sure not to move until Jordyn or Aja said that the clips lined up correctly. A few times, I had moved and this resulted in us having to film the scene over. Eventually, we completed the morning, bathroom, and office scene. The refilming process was annoying, but I was able to do it correctly in just 3 shots because of how many times it needed to be refilmed last time! The transition is flawless and I am very relieved that i get to stop splashing myself with water. No...

production blog: the editing session

Image
Hi! As you know, the group filmed the other day, finally. It was long awaited and our camera-person got lots of the shots that she needed. this, of course, means that the editor must begin her job. Our editor, Jordyn, sat down with the clips that were shot during filming to see what could be done. Her editing session was short though, because we were only able to get one scene completed due to the tight schedule we were running on. Because she only had one scene to edit, she decided to use IMovie as her main editing software. Using that platform at this point would optimize the efficiency of the editing, instead of using Davinci Resolve. However, later on when the editing is more complex, jordyn will use it even despite her difficulty with Davinci last year. During filming, the issue of a phone stabalizer running out of battery occured. This unfortunatly became a larger problem when an awkward cut between shots was noticed. As jordyn was splicing the transition together, she noticed th...

production blog: filming

Welcome back! Yesterday the group was finally able to meet up and film. To do this, Jordyn rode with Aja to meet at my moms house after school. There, we stopped for a homemade chicken sandwich before heading to my dads to begin filming. Once we got there, we began to film the morning scene, until I realized I had forgotten the main prop, my glasses. Because of this, we filmed the bathroom scene instead. Aja was recording, and she had to take many shots of the same scene due to the difficult transition. I was the one acting at the moment, and I had to hold many different positions and hide props in the sink to keep the transitions clean. At one point, I had the prop flask in the sink, while also having my head ducked in the sink to avoid being in the camera's view. Another funny think I had to do was mess up my bathroom! I used toothpaste and squeezed it out on the counter, flicked water on the mirror to make it look dirty, and put old hairties on the counter. This was to give it a...

production blog: marketing

Image
Welcome back! Tomorrow the group will film the first part of the short film, but for now, marketing is the main focus. To gain traction for the film, the group has decided to create various social media accounts on platforms like instagram, youtube, facebook and twitter. I am also creating a website to give information regarding the film to anyone interested. All of the social media accounts will provide the basic information about the film, as well as behind the scene clips from the days the group was filming. On the youtube account, my idea was to compile a few of the bloopers and post them. This would be funny and focus attention on the film. As for the instagram account, it was decided that it would focus more on the personal aspects of each character. Things like Q and A's and interviews could be posted, so that the audience gets to know each actor as a person. The twitter account would be used to tweet links of posts on other social media platforms, as well as to interact wi...

Welcome back! Even though my group was supposed to meet up to begin the filming process this past weekend, my groupmates and I were unable to stick to the plan. a decision to meet up this Thursday was made. My group wasnt able to meet up because of SAT testing this week, and wanting to study was also a factor. When all of us had time, work on smaller tasks regarding our film was done. I was working on the musical scores that will be distributed throughout the film. I wanted to create specific scores that correlate to the emotions of each scene. To do this I used multiple instruments like guitar, piano, violin and drums. A great part of being in such a technological advanced time is that I am able to immitate different instruments from my computer. In an application called Garage Band I am able to "play" a violin to create tense or sad feelings. Luckily, I have access to many guitars through the school, as well as my personal collection. I also have my own keyboard, but i...

production blog: music and score

Time to start working on the elements of our film! We have one official song that we got the copyrights to. We did this by emailing the business email provided on the artists website. They responded quickly and were happy to let us use the song in our film. We plan to use it at the end of the video, but we are going to need to use royalty free music throughout the rest of the video to set the tone and create tension!! We began to look online for royalty free music that matches our tone. We found a few good options, but to meet our needs completely we decided that creation our own score would work best. I am already a musician and I play multiple instruments. Using music software I can create a tense, spooky vibe that we are looking for. We want to add a clock ticking in the background to make significant that the subject’s memory is slowly getting closer to its reset. The ticking should be faint but when the scene is more intense it gets louder. Our reasoning behind this is that it...
