production blog: music and score
Time to start working on the elements of our film! We have one official song that we got the copyrights to. We did this by emailing the business email provided on the artists website. They responded quickly and were happy to let us use the song in our film. We plan to use it at the end of the video, but we are going to need to use royalty free music throughout the rest of the video to set the tone and create tension!!
We began to look online for royalty free music that matches our tone. We found a few good options, but to meet our needs completely we decided that creation our own score would work best. I am already a musician and I play multiple instruments. Using music software I can create a tense, spooky vibe that we are looking for.
We want to add a clock ticking in the background to make significant that the subject’s memory is slowly getting closer to its reset. The ticking should be faint but when the scene is more intense it gets louder.
Our reasoning behind this is that it adds an element that most people seem to overlook. Yes, it is cool but also it helps the audience to really feel the tension and add complex layers to the film. We want our film to portray the emotions and struggles of alcoholism and the struggles of the main character’s coping mechanism.
