Creative Critical Reflection

1.     How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

Spotify uses music to bring people together. Music is something that everyone can take part in and enjoy. Spotify has added a new feature during quarantine called “group sessions”. This is a program that allows groups to play the same music at the same time, linked together throughout multiple phones. This promotes togetherness and is a way to connect during times when we can’t be together physically. This company has also donated over $10 million dollars to charities like Musicares, The CDC, and WHO. These donations were to “Help those in the music community who need it most”, and to help fund the efforts of Corona Virus care and cures.

2.     How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

Spotify's user base was mostly used by Millennials, and 29 percent of their users are of the ages 25 to 34. 26 percent are aged between 18 and 24. My product shows how music can be available to anyone, anywhere. It mostly appeals to the high school age and up. It engages with this age group because the commercial takes place in a school setting and relates to activities that teens participate in. If it were to be distributed, it is most likely to  be aired as a video commercial, because most of Spotify’s ads are audio only. My Spotify add would probably be displayed as a YouTube ad or a commercial on television. The audio it’s self would not be able to disperse the message.

3.     How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

My production skills were not good at the beginning of the project as I have never made a film before. As the project went on, my filming got better and better, and I was able to use different angles and techniques. In the next project, my skills will get even better, and I will be able to use that to my full advantage. I enjoyed the filming process and thought it was very interesting. I look forwards to the next project. I think there is a noticeable difference in the first clip, as compared to the final clip. You can tell that the shakiness is significantly less than the first clip. I plan on trying challenging shots and angles for the future project.

4.     How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

Foe the making of this project, I used a variety of different technologies. For filming, I used my iPhone, and for the editing, I used a software called iMovie. For most of the background sounds, I used YouTube. All of these things were necessary for the final product and editing of this film. The internet was also a big factor in the process. “Blogger” was used to record and organize all of our thoughts and ideas for the process. We used this website to upload updates and interesting things about the process. I also used the app “canvas” to see when out blogs were due. Canvas was also used to help us see how to formulate out blogs if we needed. The internet also played a part in research. Any information I was not aware of, I was able to look up on google.
